Muse Spark is the first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), launched on April 8, 2026. Built from the ground up under Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, it marks a clean break from Meta's previous Llama family — it is closed-source, natively multimodal, and designed for what Meta calls "personal superintelligence."
The model accepts text, image and voice inputs and operates in three modes. Instant mode handles quick everyday queries. Thinking mode applies step-by-step reasoning for moderate complexity. Contemplating mode — the headline feature — orchestrates multiple AI sub-agents reasoning in parallel, competing directly with Google Gemini Deep Think and OpenAI GPT-5.4 Pro on the most demanding tasks.
On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, Muse Spark scores 52, placing it fourth globally behind Gemini 3.1 Pro and GPT-5.4 (both 57) and Claude Opus 4.6 (53). Where it leads the field is health reasoning — it scores 42.8 on HealthBench Hard, the highest of any model tested — and chart and figure understanding, where it scores 86.4 on CharXiv Reasoning, ahead of both Gemini and GPT-5.4.
Muse Spark is currently available free at meta.ai and the Meta AI app on iOS and Android. It is rolling out to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses. No public API is available yet — a private enterprise preview is underway with broader API access confirmed as coming later in 2026.
